Who is this website for?
I believe that all Christians will benefit from the Father Meditations. Because of the depth and intricacies of this website, pastors and Bible teachers will find these meditations of particular value. For they can not only be read in sequential order, but also by consulting the Scripture Index that links all the Bible texts about God as Father to one or more meditations. Or the meditations can be approached topically by clicking on a specific meditation title in the Title Index.
Why these meditations?
For many Christians, Jesus is the central focus in their lives. Yet one of the main reasons God sent Jesus was so that through faith in him people might come into a new relationship with God as their Father—through the Holy Spirit. During the 20th century, many Christians came into a deeper relationship with God through a renewed emphasis in many churches and Christian movements on the Holy Spirit. Yet I believe that now, during this new century, there will be a renewed emphasis on God’s revelation of himself in the Scriptures as our Father.
It is my prayer that through these meditations, you and many others will come to know your Creator as ‘the Father from whom all fatherhood…derives its name’ (Ephesians 3:14-15 Phillips), and so learn that his fatherhood is neither about gender nor about human patriarchy. And may you come to experience what Jesus meant when he told his disciples: ‘If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I’ (John 14:28 NIV).
